What is Bainbridge Island Doing to Increase Mobility and Public Accessibility?
The City of Bainbridge Island and the Park District are in the process of developing their individual Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) Transition Plans to guide when and where accessibility improvements need to be made. Both organizations are conducting an inventory of current public facilities and services across the island, to learn more about barriers to accessibility and participation.
The development of a comprehensive ADA Transition Plan also requires feedback from community members just like you! In order to better understand your experiences, we are conducting an online survey, providing an interactive map to locate barriers, and establishing a stakeholder forum for feedback.

The Americans with Disabilities Act
The Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) requires an ADA Transition Plan from public entities having responsibility for, or authority over facilities, streets, roads, sidewalks and/or other areas meant for public use (collectively referred to as “facilities”). This Plan must describe how facilities will be transitioned to meet federal accessibility standards.
